Tuesday is National Night Out for Brown County and area residents are getting ready to hold block parties to meet neighbors and local law enforcement.
This year, dozens of block parties are scheduled across the county in Brownwood, Early, Bangs, and several rural locations.
The Brownwood and Early Police Departments; the Brown County Sheriff's office; area fire departments; along with other city and county officials will visit these parties taking place Tuesday, October 3rd between 5:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
Residents attending block parties are encouraged to bring canned tuna to benefit Good Samaritan Ministries, who will collect the donated cans during National Night Out.
Local participating sponsors for the 2017 National Night Out include Heart of Texas Crime Stoppers, 3M Company, Atmos Energy, Oncor, TexasBank, Lifeguard Ambulance Service , and Weldon Wilson Electric. Goodie bags sponsored by Andy's Pest Troopers.

The Brownwood and Early Chambers of Commerce held a joint ribbon cutting on Wednesday, September 6th for Spa de la Terre.

Blue Sky Entertainment is the parent company for Brown County radio stations KBNX – 97.9/103.9 SUNNY FM, KXXU – 104.3 KISS FM, KQMJ – 104.7 LA LEY and KSZX – 105.5 – THE BULL. The ribbon cuttings and football-themed event were held at their newly remodeled offices at 510 Early Boulevard in Early.

The Brownwood and Early Chambers of Commerce held a joint ribbon cutting on Friday, August 11th for the official Grand Opening of Weakley-Watson Ace Hardware in Brownwood as Ace Hardware's 5000th Store.
Their Grand Opening event was held this past weekend and included food, music, and special drawings and much more. Weakley-Watson is the oldest hardware store in the state of Texas, operating since 1876.

Neighbors throughout Brown County are being invited to join together for the 2017 National Night Out (NNO) crime and drug prevention event on Tuesday, October 3rd.
Coordinators of the local NNO event are currently looking for block captains to organize small gatherings in neighborhoods in Brown County. These gatherings will be a rallying point where neighbors can meet each other, visit with law enforcement officials, and send a message to potential criminals.
From 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on October 3rd, residents in neighborhoods throughout Brown County are asked to spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout the area will be hosting a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from police, contests, and other activities.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Representatives from the Brownwood Police Department, Brown County Sheriff's Office, Early Police Department, Bangs Police Department, area fire departments, and city officials will travel around Brownwood, Early, Bangs and Brown County during the event to visit these gatherings and speak to those in attendance.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is getting set for their annual Business Expo, and complimentary passes are currently available for the event scheduled September 7th.
The 23rd Annual Brownwood Business Expo will feature over 70 local businesses in various lines of trade. The show will open at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 7th at the Brownwood Coliseum and will feature well known, established businesses as well as some of the newest in the Brownwood area.
Admission at the door will be $2 and the complimentary passes are currently available for a limited time at the Brownwood Chamber of Commerce office - 600 E. Depot St.
"All visitors to the show will have the opportunity to win booth prizes from each of the exhibitors," said Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Director Jennifer Barberie. "Those who participate in 'Expo Bingo' may enter to win the grand prize - $500 cash."
For the 11th year, the Taste of Brownwood returns to offer the community the opportunity to sample favorite recipes from local restaurants, caterers and bakeries. From 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, expo visitors can sample tasty treats. Each visitor will receive 4 free Taste of Brownwood tickets with the $2 admission fee. Those who choose to enter with a complimentary pass will need to purchase Taste of Brownwood tickets for $1 each at the door the day of the show.

The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thursday, July 27th for Poppy's Sweets N Treats.
They offer a variety of food items such as snow cones, fruit cups, ice cream, shaved ice, frozen pickles, nachos, chili cheese dogs, Frito pies and more. Poppy's Sweets N Treats slogan is "Where Sweets R Sweet.........N Service Is Sweeter!"
