This is your opportunity to help recognize someone who has given exemplary service to our visitors. Deadline for nominations is Wed, May 8 at NOON.

Tourism has a direct impact on the jobs of those working at restaurants, lodging, convenience stores, and museums as well as city workers who help set up for special events

The Outstanding Tourism Employee of the Year will be announced on Thursday, May 9th during our annual open house and honored during our monthly luncheon on Friday, May 17th at the Brownwood Country Club

Ribbon Cutting for Heart of Texas Riders

Heart of Texas Riders is a non-profit organization that helps children through fundraising efforts in the area.  Many times they partner with other non-profit agencies to help raise money for special events that support children in the area.

Ribbon Cutting for Condor Document Services

Entries Now Being Accepted for the 50th Annual Brown County Rodeo Parade

rodeoparadestock Brownwood TX The 50th annual Brown County Rodeo is fast approaching and organizers are getting set for a great lineup of events and activities including the rodeo parade.

As a major component to the rodeo each year, the Brown County Rodeo Parade will travel through Downtown Brownwood and feature a wide assortment of entries. Entry forms are now being accepted for the parade which will take place Saturday, June 8th at 10 AM.

Participants in the parade should begin lining up at 8:30 AM for award judging at the Brownwood Coliseum. Awards will be presented for best in-town float, best out of town float, riding club awards, best decorated vehicles, best antique vehicles, best horse drawn vehicles, and best bikes/unicycle. Brownwood Mayor Stephen Haynes will also select one entry for the Mayor’s Choice Award.

There is no fee to enter the parade. Entry forms are available at or Entry forms may be returned to the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce office at 600 E. Depot Street.

The 50th annual Brown County Rodeo will take place June 6, 7, and 8 at the Earl Q. Wilson Arena.

U.S. Chamber’s Institute Awards Missi Malone of Brownwood the Regent Scholarship

missiphotoWashington D.C. — Institute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, announced today that Missi Malone of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce has been awarded a Regent Scholarship. Awarded to professionals from across the country, the Regent Scholarships recognize each recipient for their involvement in industry professional organizations, community service, and professional background.

“Regent scholarships offer executives the opportunity to attend Institute and learn about emerging industry trends, expand their organizations’ influence, and grow their peer network,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, vice president of Institute for Organization Management at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “We are pleased to help these talented professionals advance their careers and organizations.”

Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has educated tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members, and become strong business advocates.  

Each of the Regent Scholarship recipients will attend one of Institute’s five sites in 2013. At the completion of the four-year curriculum, each of the recipients will receive the IOM graduate recognition, signifying completion of 96 hours of course instruction in nonprofit management and their commitment to the industry. In addition, all credit hours earned through Institute may be applied toward the Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) or Certified Association Executive (CAE) industry certification.

Brownwood Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for the Screen Shop

screenshop450The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, April 16th for one of their newest members, the Screen Shop.

Located at 1211 Coggin Avenue, the Screen Shop offers a variety of window screen products and services including repairs and custom-made screens. They also offer commercial and residential solar screen window upgrades.

Pie in Face at Stake For Chamber Staff at MDA Lockup


Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce staff members Missi Malone and Ray Tipton will participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association lockup on Wednesday, April 17th at 10 AM at the Adams Street Community Center.   As a friendly competition, the staff members will attempt to call friends and family for donations at the event. The staff member who collects the most donations will get to throw a pie in the face of the other staff member at the end of the day.

To donate in advance, go to their individual donation pages at the links below or visit the Adams Street Community Center in Brownwood on Wednesday, April 17th at 10 AM to donate to Missi or Ray from the Chamber of Commerce. All proceeds benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Ribbon Cut for New Air Evac Lifeteam Helicopter Hanger

airevac450The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for Air Evac Lifeteam on Tuesday, March 26th at their new hanger on Streckert Drive in Brownwood.

The new hanger was recently constructed at the location across from Brownwood Regional Medical Center for the Air Evac helicopter. The hanger will be used for the helicopter during bad weather and cold weather.

Air Evac Lifeteam works closely with local EMS providers to coordinate patient care and provide rapid air transport.

Brownwood Chamber holds Ribbon Cutting for Katy's Steakhouse

katys450The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Katy's Steakhouse in Blanket on Thursday, March 21st to welcome them as new members.

Re-established in 2012, Katy's is a local treasure that has been rejuvenated by new owners, Clint and Jami Tunnell. They offer a delicious menu including steaks, fish and gourmet burgers.
