The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and TexasBank are pleased to announce that registration for the 2014 Brownwood Area Economic Summit is currently underway. The event will be held on February 13 at Howard Payne University's Jackson Room in the Paul & Jane Meyer Leadership Center on Center Avenue from 7:30AM to 10 AM.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Thomas Tunstall, Research Director at the Institute for Economic Development at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He will present his study, "The Economic Impact of West Texas Oil & Gas" with an emphasis on Brown and surrounding counties. He was the principal investigator for a similar study done in 2012: the Economic Impact of the Eagle Ford Shale.
In addition, attendees will hear from Luke Legate, a consultant with the Joint Oil & Gas Education Initiative Association. He will discuss how businesses are affected by a large influx of oil and gas production and specifically, how Brownwood/Brown County businesses can position themselves to benefit from the increased oil and gas production.
Of local interest, the Brownwood Board of Realtors will discuss real estate trends. Recent sales tax and employment trends, analysis and forecast will be provided by the Brownwood Economic Development Corporation.

The Brownwood Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with and the Tarleton Small Business Development Center will hold a free "Starting a Small Business Workshop" on Thursday, January 30, 2014.
This one-hour workshop presented by Randy Thomas of the Small Business Development Center will outline how to start a small business. The interactive one-hour workshop will help prospective entrepreneurs start down the path to successful business ownership.
During the workshop, attendees will learn about financing options; about laws and regulations for starting a business; about the business plan writing process; accessing local, state and federal resources; and where to get free, one-on-one help to get started
An opportunity for networking will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the free workshop will take place from noon - 1 p.m. at the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce located at 600 E. Depot Street, Brownwood.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will host their 2nd annual Brownwood Area Bridal Fair on Saturday, January 18th at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center in Brownwood.
The fair will host a variety of vendors and will be a resource for soon-to-be brides in planning their special day. Vendors will showcase their products and services and will be available with tips, techniques, and ideas for the perfect wedding. Photographers, florists, caterers, DJs, party rental, and venues as well as other businesses are just a few of the types of vendors that will be on hand during the event.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Castle Keep Services on Thursday, December 5th to welcome them as new members of the Chamber.
Established in 2010, Castle Keep Services offers concealed handgun, self defense and tactical classes, including NRA certified courses. Public and private classes are available.
