The Brown County Fair Association and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce announced this week that Putter Jarvis has been named this year's rodeo parade grand marshal.
Jarvis has been a long-time supporter of the Brown County Fair Association and has served for many years on the board and as an officer. He was also on the steering committee that built the Earl Q. Wilson Rodeo Arena and served on the Brown County Rodeo steering committee for many years. Jarvis was recognized this year as a lifetime supporter of the Brown County Youth Fair.
Putter Jarvis has also served in many capacities in the community on boards, committees and organizations in his lifetime including two terms on the Brownwood City Council, as board member of the Brownwood Jaycees, board member of the Brownwood Rotary Club, board member and president of the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce, board member and president of the Brownwood Industrial Foundation, board member of the Brownwood Regional Hospital board and several others.
The 51st Annual Brown County Rodeo Parade will travel through Downtown Brownwood and feature a wide assortment of entries. The parade will start Saturday, June 14th at 10 AM.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Easyhome to kick off their Grand Opening celebration last weekend.
Easyhome is the 3rd largest lease-to-own company in the nation and carries name brands such as Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire, Maytag, Toshiba, Dell, HP, Ashley and much more. The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on May 22 for Tunnell Construction and Roofing to welcome them as the newest members of the Chamber.
Tunnell Construction and Roofing is a locally owned and operated business that offers a wide range of services. They work on residential and commercial projects and offer a full line of construction, roofing and restoration services. They also have experience in dealing with all major insurance agencies and mortgage companies and can walk customers through the insurance claim process.
They offer free estimates and will work with customers on the financial aspect of the project. They serve Brownwood, Comanche, Blanket, Early, Goldthwaite, Coleman, Mullin, Bangs, and other surrounding areas
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce is asking businesses to decorate the outside of their storefronts and offices for Western Week to be held June 9-14 to show support for this year's Brown County Rodeo.
Western Week had been a community tradition years ago that slowly faded away until last year when it was revived. Last year's winners included Brownwood City Hall, Brownwood VA Outpatient Clinic, and Hamilton's.
First, second and third places will be awarded this year to the "best decorated" businesses who register to be judged. Winners will be given an award, media recognition, a spot in the rodeo parade, and will have their names announced during the rodeo. Judging will take place Tuesday morning, June 10th.
Concert headliners were announced Thursday for the 2014 Brownwood Reunion Celebration that will be held September 19-21.
The classic rock band Survivor, known best for their 1980's hit song "Eye of the Tiger," will headline the first night of concerts on Friday, September 19th.
The country band Restless Heart will headline the concerts on Saturday, September 20th. They are best known for their number one song "Bluest Eyes in Texas."
Tickets sales and prices for the concerts will be announced at a later date.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, May 14th to announce the opening of the new recreation pavilion at the Heart of Texas Camp.
The new recreation pavilion is located at the camp at 8025 North FM 2125 near Lake Brownwood. Since a huge part of their ministry at Heart of Texas Camp is to children and youth, they strive to create an atmosphere that is welcoming and accommodating to a variety of groups for a variety of activities.
They have built this new recreation pavilion on their campus as a multi-use facility that includes three basketball courts, which can be converted into two volleyball courts. It will provide shade for recreation of all kinds during the hot summer and shelter from adverse weather any time of the year. The newly completed recreation pavilion may also be used for church or company picnics, family reunions, and other gatherings.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual law enforcement appreciation luncheon on Friday, May 16 at the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church Connection Center (1715 Coggin Ave) from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This event is intended to honor the men and women in all aspects of law enforcement—who work together to keep the community safe.
Representatives from the Brownwood and Early Police Departments, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and other agencies will be on hand to announce special honors earned by their department and/or officers. Each of those agencies or departments has been offered the opportunity to announce their Officer of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Investigator of the Year, or whatever awards may be appropriate for their agency. Other invited Law Enforcement officials will be recognized, such as District Judge and Attorney, County Judge and Attorney, Brown County Justices of the Peace, Bangs Police Department, Constables and other agencies that serve and protect the citizens in Brown County.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce presented their annual "Excellence in Tourism" award this week to Mary Stanley of the Turtle Restaurant for her efforts in enhancing and promoting the travel and tourism industry in Brown County.
"Mary and her business draws a large base of customers from outside of the Brown County area which positively impacts the community and other area businesses," said Sunni Modawell, Director of Tourism for the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce gives their "Excellence in Tourism" award each year during National Travel and Tourism Week to an individual or business that impacts the local tourism industry. This year National Travel and Tourism Week is May 3 through 11.
Tourism has a large impact on Brown County by supporting over 600 local jobs. Modawell said that visitors spend over $50 million in each year in Brown County which generates over $1 million in sales tax revenue.
Across Texas, travel employs a diverse workforce, from hotel employees, to restaurant, attraction and retail workers, as well as supports employees in other industry sectors such as construction, manufacturing and finance.
The Hideout Golf Club at Lake Brownwood held a grand opening event and ribbon cutting on Thursday, May 1st to show off their new facility.
The Hideout Golf Club is located on Lake Brownwood in the Heart of Texas and is situated on rolling terrain, dotted with numerous lakes and ponds. The 18 hole golf course has many well placed bunkers and water features to provide a challenging yet relaxing round of golf.
