Organizers announced today that Rick Phelps has been named Grand Marshal for the 2015 Spirit of Christmas Lighted Parade which will take place Thursday, December 3rd at 6:30 PM in Downtown Brownwood.
Phelps is known for his involvement in the community through the Brownwood and Early Chambers of Commerce. He has also organized the Bangs Mayfest event for several year and served as the chairman of the 2015 Relay for Life. Rick currently serves as board president for the Salvation Army Service Center and is involved in church and school activities at Victory Life Academy. Rick also serves on the Bangs City Council as Mayor Pro Tem. He is currently the news director for KOXE radio.
"Rick is involved in many aspects of the community and has a great spirit for community involvement," said Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ray Tipton. "Rick has organized parades this year in Brownwood and Early so we thought it was appropriate that he was recognized for his efforts and willingness to get involved."
This year's parade is sponsored by Texas Rock Crusher Railway and will have the theme of "My favorite Christmas." The parade will be broadcast by KTXS-TV- Abilene.
The parade will feature floats, vehicles, walkers, horses, classic cars, marching bands and more.
A Community Candlelight Service to pray for those who serve and protect will be held on Tuesday, December 8th, 6:00 pm at Depot Plaza, 600 E. Depot St. This will be a prayer service for Active-Duty Military, Veterans, Law Enforcement, Fire & Rescue and EMT.
This is an opportunity for residents of Brown County to come together and pray for those who put their lives on the line every day. The event will include music, prayers, scripture reading and lighting of candles. Prior to the service, citizens may complete a prayer card for someone who serves the community to be prayed for by name.
Those attending are asked to bring their lawn chairs. All residents of Brown County are invited to attend and show support.
The Brownwood Police Department and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce will host a free workshop for local businesses to educate them on the new Open Carry gun laws going into effect January 1st. Brownwood Police Chief Mike Corley will give an overview of the new laws and how it may impact local businesses.
The workshop will be held at the Brownwood Fire Department Training Room located on Adams Street. The workshop will be offered at 4 different days and times to accommodate local businesses' schedule. Each session will last about an hour and include the following days and times:

This year's parade is sponsored by Texas Rock Crusher Railway and will have the theme of "my favorite Christmas." The parade will be held on Thursday, December 3rd and will begin at 6:30 PM in Downtown Brownwood.

The parade is open to floats, vehicles, walkers, horses, classic cars, marching bands and more. Cost to enter the parade is $10 per entry if registered by November 16th. The parade is limited to 100 entries each year.
The Spirit of Christmas Lighted Parade will kick off a weekend of holiday events including the 7th annual Christmas Under the Stars Festival on Friday December, 4th and Saturday, December 5th sponsored by KTXS-TV. The festival will include Mr. and Mrs. Claus, "snow mountain," kids activities, big wheel races and several holiday themed contests.

Brownwood Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for The ARK Domestic Violence Shelter’s New Administration Offices
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting on Thursday, October 1st for The ARK Domestic Violence Shelter’s new administrative office building.
The ARK Domestic Violence Shelter moved their administration offices to 2900 Coggin Avenue, Suite A in Brownwood. The new offices are open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (excluding Holidays). Anyone that needs help or information may stop by anytime during those hours. There is no appointment necessary.
For emergency assistance 24/7 or to talk with an advocate about domestic violence issues, The ARK’s hotline number is (325) 643-2699 or toll free (888) 313-2699. The ARK is also accepting donations at the new location during business hours. For large donations, or for furniture items, the shelter accepts them each weekday before noon only.
The Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and Wendlee Broadcasting have teamed up again this year for the 4th Annual Trick or Treat Trail. This family friendly event will be held in the Depot Plaza area on Thursday, October 29th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Area businesses and organizations will offer candy, goodies, games and other fun activities free of charge to area residents.
Also included during the event will be a Halloween Costume Contest sponsored by Wal-Mart. The contest will offer prizes in the categories of most creative costume, best couple costume , best family costume, best group costume, cutest baby costume and best children's costume. During the Trick or Treat Trail, family-friendly cartoons will be shown in the Depot pavilion lawn sponsored by Chick-Fil-A, Affiliated Bank and Baird Brothers Express Car Wash.
Area businesses are encouraged to set up an activity booth during the Trick or Treat Trail to offer free games and candy to those in attendance. Participation is free and open to any business located in the Brownwood/Early area.
